- How and when did ROC Wheels start?
In 1989, Wayne Hanson founded Kid-Kart in the garage of their family home in Bozeman, Montana. While manufacturing strollers for the pediatric market from 1990-1996, Kid-Kart grew to become a national leader in seating and mobility for children with moderate to severe disabilities, from infancy to 8 years old. Kid-Kart provided custom seating and mobility systems on a large scale that could address the specific needs of children. Kid-Kart was purchased by Sunrise Medical in 1996.
Three years later in 1999, Wayne took his passion of 13 years of experience in wheelchair production and collaborated with another entrepreneur to manufacture and develop wheelchairs for developing countries. In 2003, he and his wife Lee Ann founded and incorporated ROC Wheels in order to provide mobility products for people with disabilities in developing countries and to foster partnerships through ministry, youth empowerment, wheelchair distributions, manufacturing opportunities, and educational development. In July of 2004, ROC Wheels became a registered 501(c)(3). back to top
